Katarina started skating at the age of five old. Her success allowed her to show her talent and gain entry into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted children. It was here that she was introduced to the coach of her choice, Jutta Muller. Breakthrough year Witt's breakthrough came in 1982 when she came second at the World Championships in Copenhagen. The grace and elegant style of Witt captured the eyes of all and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since. Olympic Success At Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating after a fiercely contested contest. In a more competitive competition, the following year, Witt won her gold medal. The free skating competition, but was awarded the gold medal based on her performance during the compulsory figure and the short-form program. Witt was the first woman ever since Sonja Haenie to be an apex figure skater. Hall of Fame Witt was capable of returning to figure skating after her accomplishments as a movie actor. She took part in the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Despite not winning a gold medal, Witt impressed the crowd. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by its members in the year 1995.
